No TV/Monitor Week!

We made it! A whole week without the TV or anything with a monitor. Weslie creatively hid Kaylee's ipod since it had a screen on it. What a week! We have done this for the past 5 years however, this year seemed to be particularly challenging for the older kids. They were allowed to access the computer only if it was homework related. Kaylee, Kendall and Shannon were all invited to friends' houses to play Wii or to watch a video on Friday and Saturday. We allowed them the choice but the rest of us remained strong. Two years ago Shannon won a turkey in a drawing from no TV week. Since our teenagers caved on Friday at their friends' houses, we are out of the drawing this year but we enjoyed the time. It wasn't much of a challenge as this was a busy (Really BUSY!) week. I have two more posts to add to the blog to show you some of the fun but this post is dedicated to Weslie who whole-heartedly stuck to her commitment and made it an awesome week for her mother! Here are some of the activities she engaged in to make it fun for the boys:

*Made movies with the video camera
*Made cupcakes and decorated them
*Made clay figures
*Put on puppet shows
*Wrote Mamaw and mailed the letters
*Practiced the fiddle for Greenville Idol (She's in the finals this week!!)
*Made and illustrated her own book
*Played out-door games with 13 other neighborhood kids
*Played many board games
*Reader's Theater for Braden & Landon
*Tent city
*Character city - all over the basement!

THANK HEAVEN FOR GOOD WEATHER MOST OF THE WEEK (We did get snow on Sat. but it was at the tail end - Hooray!)

I had to enclose a picture of Kendall's idea of no TV week as morbid as it seems. He made a noose (Nice use of his scouting skills) and hung a puppet from my ceiling fan! We had a nice chat about that!

We challenge you all to take a week and see how you can survive without the computer, TV, video games, etc... It's an eye-opener!!

I know my family would not make it right now through the whole week but maybe down the road we can.
