October 2008

SEPTEMBER: Gone! We started school and were able to go visit Whitney's parents in Green River, WY (where Whit & I grew up). His aunt and uncle were visiting from Wisconsin. We had a great time! We also had Whit's dad come and visit. He left his motorcycles with us for three weeks. We took advantage of viewing the fall colors in the canyon on the motorcycles! FUN! We also went to Miller Sports Park with Whit's dad before he left on his trip to the Arctic Ocean.

This picture was taken shortly after a race in which a guy from Oregon, after running second the entire race, slipped through a gap in the final turn with the leader blocked by slower racers and won by a bike length. The rider he beat, who had led the whole race, was his wife!

Earlier in the week Whitney and I were at Bonneville Salt Flats for the speed trials. We got to see the world record holding bike up close, and in fact were waiting for its first run when a racer from Montana crashed at 200 mph plus and was killed, ending the racing. He was headed our way, about three miles from us (it's a seven mile course), when he crashed. I'm glad we didn't see that.

Coming home from the races where this picture was taken Kaylee rode with Whit and Shannon rode with me. We followed them most of the way, and I got some chuckles out of watching young guys in passing cars checking out Whit's passenger. . .
